The panda cory (Corydoras panda) comes from the Ucayali river system in Peru, and the markings are what sell it: a pale cream body broken by a black bar through the eye, a black patch on the dorsal fin and a black blotch at the tail base. It is a small, tidy catfish that spends its day working the substrate in a group, and it is one of the few corydoras that reliably reads as patterned rather than simply mottled.
Aquarium care
- Reaches roughly 5 cm.
- Peaceful and community safe.
- Keep six or more.
- Sand or smooth rounded gravel to protect the barbels.
- Bottom-dweller. Feed sinking wafers, pellets and frozen bloodworm.
- Prefers cooler, well-oxygenated water than most tropical community fish.
The temperature preference is worth taking seriously. Panda corys do not thrive in a tank run warm for discus or sterbai corys, and they do considerably better in the lower part of the tropical range. Pair them with small tetras, rasboras and other fish that suit the same conditions.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the rest of our corydoras.
