Corydoras julii

A small, pale corydoras patterned with a dense network of fine dark markings across the head and flanks, and a single dark stripe running along the midline. Fish sold under the name Corydoras julii are usually the three-line cory, Corydoras trilineatus, which is a close relative and near-identical in care; true C. julii reaches Canada only rarely. Either way you are getting the same tidy, active little catfish, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.

Aquarium care

• Reaches roughly 5 cm.
• Peaceful and community safe.
• Keep six or more.
• Sand or smooth rounded gravel to protect the barbels.
• Bottom-dweller. Feed sinking wafers, pellets and frozen bloodworm.
• Adaptable about water chemistry.

It fits into any calm community and looks particularly good over pale sand, where the spotting reads clearly. Small tetras, rasboras and dwarf cichlids all make sensible companions. Avoid large or boisterous fish that will monopolise the sinking food.
