This is the long-finned form of the bronze corydoras (Corydoras aeneus), the fish that introduced most people to the genus. Depending on the light and the individual, the flanks show either a warm copper-bronze or a distinctly green metallic sheen — the same fish is sold under both names. The extended dorsal and tail give it a softer, more flowing outline than the standard form without changing anything about how it behaves.
Aquarium care
- Adults reach about 6 to 7 cm.
- Keep a group of six or more; a single cory spends most of its time hiding.
- Needs a soft sand bed so it can sift without damaging its barbels.
- Offer sinking wafers or pellets so it gets a proper share at feeding time.
- Tolerates a wide range of water conditions, which makes it forgiving for a newer keeper.
- Gentle to moderate flow suits the longer fins best.
A good match for tetras, rasboras, platies, guppies and dwarf cichlids in a planted tank. Keep it away from fin-nipping barbs and from cichlids large enough to swallow it. Corydoras are best bought in one go rather than added a few at a time.
