Corydoras Albino

The albino corydoras is a colour form of the bronze cory (Corydoras aeneus), a South American armoured catfish that has been a fixture of community tanks for generations. The albino line is a soft pinkish white with red eyes, and it stands out against dark substrate in a way the wild fish does not. Like all corys it works the bottom of the tank in a busy, snuffling group, sifting substrate with a pair of sensitive barbels either side of the mouth.

Aquarium care

• Reaches roughly 6 cm.
• Peaceful and completely community safe.
• Keep six or more. Corys kept singly become withdrawn and inactive.
• Needs sand or smooth rounded gravel; sharp substrate wears the barbels away.
• Bottom-dweller that needs sinking food of its own, not just leftovers.
• Hardy and adaptable about water chemistry.

You will see them dart to the surface for a gulp of air now and then. That is normal for the genus, which can absorb oxygen through the gut, and not a sign of a problem. They suit almost any peaceful community: tetras, rasboras, livebearers and dwarf gouramis all work.
