Blue Neocaridina davidi are dwarf freshwater shrimp bred for a solid blue body, sold under a range of trade names depending on grade and depth of colour. They graze constantly across wood, moss and substrate, and are among the easiest invertebrates in the hobby to keep alive and breed. One practical point that saves disappointment later: different colour lines of Neocaridina interbreed freely, and the offspring revert toward plain wild brown.

Aquarium care

  • Adults reach roughly 3 cm.
  • Peaceful and safe with all aquarium plants.
  • Keep only one colour line per tank if you want the colour to hold.
  • Feeds on biofilm and soft algae; add shrimp food and blanched vegetables regularly.
  • Needs moderately hard water with enough minerals for clean moulting.
  • Copper in any form is fatal to them.

They suit a mature planted community with small peaceful fish, or a dedicated shrimp tank where the colony can grow undisturbed. Provide moss and leaf litter so shrimplets have cover. Cichlids, loaches, gouramis and larger barbs should be kept well away from them.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the shrimp collection.
