Bacopa Monnieri

Moneywort (Bacopa monnieri) is one of the steadier stem plants in the hobby: thick upright stems, small fleshy oval leaves in opposite pairs, and a slow but very dependable rate of growth. It holds its shape, stays tidy, and rarely collapses on people the way faster stem plants sometimes do.

Aquarium care

• Stem plant. Push each stem into the substrate individually, and roots form from the buried nodes.
• Midground, or background in a smaller tank. Plant in groups of five or more for a full look.
• Tolerates low light and a wide range of water conditions, which is why it suits a first planted tank.
• No CO2 required. Growth is slow either way, so it does not need constant trimming.
• Propagate by cutting the top few inches and replanting them.
• Also grows emersed, so plants may arrive in emersed form with slightly different leaf shape and convert over a few weeks.

A sensible first stem plant, and a good filler in community tanks, betta tanks and quieter setups where a slow grower is an advantage rather than a nuisance.
