Assorted GloFish danios are zebra danios (Danio rerio) carrying an added fluorescent protein gene, so the colour is in the fish itself rather than painted or dyed on. They are produced in a range of shades sold under names such as Electric Green, Starfire Red, Cosmic Blue and Sunburst Orange, and an assorted group gives you a mix of whatever has come in. Under normal aquarium lighting the colours read as strong pastels; under blue or actinic light they fluoresce hard.
Aquarium care
Reaches about 5 cm, the same as any zebra danio.
Peaceful but constantly on the move.
Keep six or more.
Hardy across a wide range of temperature and hardness.
Swims in the upper half of the tank.
Omnivorous: flake, micro pellets and frozen foods.
Care is identical to the standard zebra danio, and the two will shoal together. They suit a bright, busy community with barbs, larger tetras and loaches, and they are an easy choice for a first tank.
