API Pimafix

Pimafix is API's companion remedy to Melafix, drawn from the West Indian bay tree and used by aquarists against cottony growths and fungal-looking patches.

Key features

• A botanical remedy marketed for fungal problems and some bacterial infections on the body, mouth and fins.
• Formulated to be used on its own or alongside Melafix, which is how many keepers run it.
• API states it will not discolour water or alter pH, and that it does not adversely affect biological filtration.

Before you treat

• Efficacy is honestly contested among fishkeepers. Botanical remedies suit mild, early problems better than an advanced infection, and a wrong diagnosis costs a sick fish time it may not have.
• Like other products in the tea-tree family, it is widely reported to thicken the surface film. Increase surface movement while treating, and be cautious with labyrinth fish such as bettas and gouramis, which gulp air at the surface.
• Dose, tank volume and course length are on the bottle. We deliberately do not restate those numbers, because bottle sizes and formulations change.
