People buy this one when they like the upright, narrow-leaf shape of standard congensis but do not have the tank depth to carry it. Anubias congensis 'mini' keeps the same proportions in miniature, with slim leaves on short stalks that stay within a hand's width of the rhizome. In a small aquarium it can sit at the back and still leave open water; in a larger tank it works better tucked around the base of wood where a full-sized plant would look coarse.
Aquarium care
- Never plant the rhizome into gravel or sand. It needs water movement around it or it will rot.
- Thread cotton thread or a dab of gel glue to fix it to hardscape until roots anchor on their own.
- Low light is fine. This is one of the few plants that will grow under a shady overhang.
- Growth is slow enough that a single plant can hold its shape for a year with no trimming.
- Split the rhizome once it has several growing points to make additional plants.
Good for nano aquascapes, shrimp-keeping setups and quiet community tanks with small tetras, rasboras and dwarf cichlids that appreciate the shade it casts.
Plant lists change as new stock arrives. Local pickup at the Lethbridge shop. More of the genus in our Anubias section.
