Seachem Purigen™

Purigen is a synthetic organic-adsorbing resin that pulls dissolved waste out of aquarium water and leaves it noticeably clearer.

Key features

• Adsorbs dissolved organic waste before it breaks down into nitrogenous compounds
• Polishes water to a clarity that mechanical filtration alone will not reach
• Darkens from pale blonde toward brown and black as it loads up, so you can see when it is spent
• Regenerable with household bleach, following the directions printed on the package
• Suitable for freshwater and marine systems

Regeneration is only worth doing if you follow the printed instructions closely and rinse the resin extremely thoroughly afterwards. Any trace of bleach must be gone before the media goes back near livestock. The label sets out the full procedure and we have deliberately not reprinted it here.

Purigen is loose media, so it needs a fine mesh bag and a position in the filter where water is forced through it rather than around it. For the other media that runs alongside it in a canister, see our external filter media. Available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store.
