Seachem PhosGuard

PhosGuard is a porous aluminium oxide medium that removes phosphate and silicate, and it works particularly well in salt water.

Key features

• Removes phosphate and silicate together, which matters in reef tanks where both feed nuisance growth
• Aluminium oxide rather than ferric oxide, so it is the alternative to try if GFO has not suited your system
• Bead form encourages water to move through the media instead of compacting into a plug
• Freshwater or marine, with the strongest performance in sea water

Some keepers prefer to avoid aluminium oxide media in tanks holding sensitive soft corals, and reach for the ferric oxide option, PhosNet, instead. Whichever you use, lower phosphate over a period rather than in one step, and rinse the media before it goes in.
