The comet is the classic single-tailed goldfish: a slim, streamlined Carassius auratus with a deeply forked tail that can be as long as the body itself. The red form is an even orange-red over the whole fish. Unlike the fancy varieties it has kept the athletic build of the wild carp it came from, and it is fast, powerful and prone to covering ground. That makes it a poor fit for a bowl or a small tank and a very good one for a pond.

Aquarium care

  • A coldwater fish that needs no heater.
  • Grows large and lives a long time. Treat it as a decades-long fish.
  • Needs length and volume, and strong filtration to handle the waste.
  • Social. Keep two or more.
  • It will dig up and eat soft plants.
  • Omnivorous: goldfish pellets or flake, blanched vegetables and frozen foods.

Best in a large coldwater tank or an outdoor pond with other single-tailed goldfish. Do not mix it with fancy goldfish, which cannot compete for food, or with tropical community fish.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the current goldfish list.
