Worth the drive from Calgary
Tropical Fish Imports is a specialist aquarium store in Lethbridge, about a 2 hour 15 minute drive — roughly 215 km — south of Calgary on Highway 2. Calgary has good aquarium shops of its own, so we will be straight with you: the reason to make the drive is the specialist livestock and plants we import, not a longer aisle of the same dry goods you can buy at home.
What makes the trip worthwhile
Because we import, our tanks are built around species that are hard to find in Alberta:
- L-number plecos and uncommon catfish
- Marine fish, invertebrates and reef supplies
- Rare and wild-type cichlids, African and South American
- Live aquarium plants, including less common species
Whether you are stocking a 29 gallon community tank or a 150 gallon reef, stock changes every week. Phone 403-380-4506 before you leave to confirm a specific fish is in — we would rather you did not drive two hours for one animal that has just sold.
Livestock is pickup
We recommend collecting live fish, plants and invertebrates in person, so you can choose your own animals and we can bag them fresh for the trip. Limited livestock shipping runs Mondays and Wednesdays under our Shipping Policy, and we do not ship live animals to the Maritimes or the territories.
