It comes from blackwater peat swamps in southwestern Borneo, where the water is soft, acidic and stained brown with tannins. Males carry a deep red body split by a dark lateral stripe; females are fuller-bodied and paler. In a bright, bare tank they look washed out and disappointing, which is almost always a setup problem rather than a fish problem.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAquarium care\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eTiny — adults stay under 2 cm.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eKeep at least ten, and preferably more; small groups hide and never colour up.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSoft, acidic, tannin-stained water brings out the red. Leaf litter and botanicals help.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDark substrate, floating plants and subdued light make a visible difference.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eNeeds very small food — micro pellets, crushed flake, baby brine shrimp.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eA mature, stable tank; these are not fish for a newly cycled setup.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003cp\u003eThey belong in a planted nano or small community with dwarf shrimp, pygmy corydoras and other tiny peaceful fish.
