It needs depth of water more than length of tank.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eReaches a good size, so a shop-sized juvenile is a poor guide to the space required.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePeaceful in a group while young; territorial and pushy once a pair forms.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSmall tankmates are food. Keep it with fish it cannot fit in its mouth.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eOmnivorous: flake or pellet as a staple, with frozen foods for condition.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDark strains show best against a pale substrate and moderate, shaded lighting.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSensitive to nitrate build-up; keep up with water changes.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA striking fish for a deep planted tank with calm, medium-sized companions.
